MADDELYN ROSE
Hampton - VA;
We moved Maddelyn Rose with the help of Captain Joe as a guide from Joys Marina in Hampton where she was purchased to AYB in Chesapeake in June 2012.
This was the first time we had entered the ICW so was a new experience for us with Capt Joe giving a history lesson and narrative of the area during the four hour trip.
Passing the Norfolk US Naval yard was interesting, seeing the aray and sizes of the vessels, not the sort of things one would want to mess with. Passing through and under bridges and the lock at Great Bridge was a new experience for us, especially Rose enjoying every moment of the trip.
We berthed Maddelyn Rose at AYB because of the covered slips for protection from the elements and seeing as Virginia Yachts are based there they could keep an eye on Maddelyn Rose for us while we were away. Being strangers to the USA Chuck, Kelsey and Bob from Virginia Yachts were fantastic in their assistance with helping with berthage, finding our way around and have become firm friends, anyone considering buying a vessel then we would reccommend you contact Virginia Yachts. <vayachts.com>
We did have a problem with the inverter / charger when AYB staff unpluged the shore power causing the voltage to drop below specified level and killing the inverter, AYB did offer some minor assistance but we were dismayed when the yard manager went fishing at lunch time, the CEO went to play golf leaving us without a means to charge the batteries. Luckerly with the help from Chuck he called in an electrician friend (Sparky) who had the problem solved in under an hour, as with Virginia Yachts we would reccommend Sparky for any problem anyone has in the Norfolk area. <sparks@cox.net>
AYB also moved Maddelyn Rose without telling us and we had to go searching the entire marina when we arrived at midnight on one of our visits, we did discover later that when AYB moved Maddelyn Rose they did some damage to the port side.
We have made 4 trips back ( 27 hour flights one way ) from Thailand since June to tidy and personalize Maddelyn Rose it readiness to finally depart sometime in August 2013 where we will travel to the Core Creek NC area to do some minor repairs, anti - fouling etc in readiness for the long trip to New Zealand.
